Saw the movie last night and if I had to rate it between 1-10 I would give it a 7. I was hoping for more of a story on Michael, but all the music and theatrics that was put together with this group of experts was worth the whole $8.25 that I payed to see the movie. Would I recommend it? Yes of course!  More of The Guam Experience as time fly's by!

Guam, Home Of The B-52s.

Monday, October 5, 2009 · 0 comments

If you ever have a chance to go on Anderson Air Force Base make sure you stop and see the B-52 that stands in the joggers park across the air field. Now thats a piece of history! More of The Guam Experience as time fly's by!

Background of the B-52s

For more than 40 years B-52s Stratofortresses have been the backbone of the manned strategic bomber force for the United States. The B-52s is capable of dropping or launching the widest array of weapons in the U.S. inventory. This includes gravity bombs, cluster bombs, precision guided missiles and joint direct attack munitions. Updated with modern technology the B-52 will be capable of delivering the full complement of joint developed weapons and will continue into the 21st century as an important element of U.S. defenses. Current engineering analyses show the B-52s' life span to extend beyond the year 2045.

The B-52A first flew in 1954, and the B model entered service in 1955. A total of 744 B-52s were built with the last, a B-52H, delivered in October 1962. Only the H model is still in the Air Force inventory and is assigned to Air Combat Command and the Air Force Reserves.

The first of 102 B-52H's was delivered to Strategic Air Command in May 1961. The H model can carry up to 20 air launched cruise missiles. In addition, it can carry the conventional cruise missile that was launched in several contingencies during the 1990s, starting with Operation Desert Storm and culminating with Operation Allied Force.

Mission of the B-52s Bombers

Air Combat Command's B-52s is a long-range, heavy bomber that can perform a variety of missions. The bomber is capable of flying at high subsonic speeds at altitudes up to 50,000 feet (15,166.6 meters). It can carry nuclear or precision guided conventional ordnance with worldwide precision navigation capability.

Features of the B-52s Bombers

In a conventional conflict, the B-52s can perform strategic attack, air interdiction, offensive counter-air and maritime operations. During Desert Storm, B-52s delivered 40 percent of all the weapons dropped by coalition forces. It is highly effective when used for ocean surveillance, and can assist the U.S. Navy in anti-ship and mine-laying operations. Two B-52s, in two hours, can monitor 140,000 square miles (364,000 square kilometers) of ocean surface.

All B-52s are equipped with an electro-optical viewing system that uses platinum silicide forward-looking infrared and high resolution low-light-level television sensors to augment targeting, battle assessment, and flight safety, thus further improving its combat ability and low-level flight capability.

Pilots wear night vision goggles (NVGs) to enhance their vision during night operations. Night vision goggles provide greater safety during night operations by increasing the pilot's ability to visually clear terrain, avoid enemy radar and see other aircraft in a covert/lights-out environment.

Starting in 1989, on-going modifications incorporates the global positioning system, heavy stores adapter beams for carrying 2,000 pound munitions, and a full array of advance weapons currently under development.

The use of aerial refueling gives the B-52s a range limited only by crew endurance. It has an unrefueled combat range in excess of 8,800 miles (14,080 kilometers).

The aircraft's flexibility was evident in Operation Desert Storm and again during Operations Allied Force. B-52s struck wide-area troop concentrations, fixed installations and bunkers, and decimated the morale of Iraq's Republican Guard. The Gulf War involved the longest strike mission in the history of aerial warfare when B-52s took off from Barksdale Air Force Base, La., launched conventional air launched cruise missiles and returned to Barksdale -- a 35-hour, non-stop combat mission. During Operation Allied Force, B-52s opened the conflict with conventional cruise missile attacks and then transitioned to delivering general purpose bombs and cluster bomb units on Serbian army positions and staging areas.

How Did Guam Become A U.S. Territory? Here Is Some History For You!

Saturday, October 3, 2009 · 0 comments

Island (pop., 2007 est.: 130,000), largest and southernmost of the Mariana Islands, Micronesia, north Pacific Ocean. Guam is an unincorporated U.S. territory; its capital is Hagåtña (Agana). With an area of 217 sq mi (561 sq km), it is divided into a northern plateau and a southern chain of volcanic hills. The indigenous population is Chamorro, Malayo-Indonesian with a considerable admixture of Spanish, Filipino, and Mexican ancestry. They speak Chamorro in addition to English, both official languages. Possibly visited by Ferdinand Magellan in 1521, Guam was formally claimed by Spain in 1565 and remained Spanish until it was ceded to the U.S. in 1898 after the Spanish-American War. During World War II the Japanese occupied the island (1941 – 44). It subsequently became a major U.S. air and naval base. In 1950 it was made a U.S. territory and placed under the Department of the Interior. The military bases and tourism are the island's economic mainstays. I Think I Will Cook Chicken Adobo Tonight For Dinner!

Chicken Adobo Recipe!

1 whole chicken (cut into eighths)

1 whole garlic (chopped)

olive oil or vegetable/corn oil

1 tsp ground black pepper

4 whole black pepper cloves

3 dried bay leaves

1 cup soy sauce

1 cup vinegar

7-up or Sprite (optional)

1 whole lemon (cut into 4) (optional)

Remember to wash your chicken very well. We recommend using the lemon (in ingredients) to scrub all over the chicken parts and rub some salt into it as well.

Heat oil and add all of the garlic, and cook until garlic is lightly browned. Add chicken and sauté until the chicken is beginning to tenderize.

Add ground black pepper, whole black pepper cloves, soy sauce, and vinegar, and let simmer for 25-35 minutes or until chicken is done.

Make sure to add more vinegar or soy sauce until it suits your taste (should be a bit tangy). When chicken is tender, you may add some 7-up or Sprite if you like a sweeter taste, and let simmer for 5 more minutes.

Serve over rice.

Are You Storm Ready? Guam Is Prepared!

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 · 1 comments

Here are some things you need to know if its your first time to be in a storm especially on Guam.

Basic Disaster Supplies

Water

•You should have at least a three-day supply of water and you should store at least one gallon of water per person per day. A normally active person needs at least one-half gallon of water daily just for drinking.

•To keep water safe, keep bottled water in its original container and do not open it until you need to use it.

Food
Store at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food. Select foods that require no refrigeration, preparation or cooking and little or no water. Avoid foods that will make you thirsty. Choose salt-free crackers, whole grain cereals and canned foods with high liquid content. Be sure to include a manual can opener.

BEFORE A STORM

Securing your home
•Seepage: Cover beds and other items with plastic to protect from water seeping in around windows and doors.
•Surge: Use surge protectors on major appliances and phone lines to avoid power spikes.
•Kit: Stock up on supplies such as candles, batteries, fuel for stoves and lanterns, toiletries and disposable plates and flatware.
•Organize: Arrange flashlights, lanterns, candles and lighters in places where adults can easily find them.
•Water: Have several gallons of purified water on hand.
•Debris: Secure all loose items such as garbage can lids, potted plants, gardening tools and other materials that could become airborne during high winds.
•Tin: Tie down tin-covered roof extensions with cables.
•Flood: Do not put valuable items and appliances on ground level to protect them from any flooding.
•Power: Have the main breaker or fuse box and the utility meters raised above the flood level for your area. This way, if your home floods, water will not damage your utilities.
•Buy typhoon insurance: If you have one, make sure it is current.

Securing your car
•Fuel: Fill your vehicles' tanks with gas. During Supertyphoon Pongsona in December 2002, a fuel tank farm caught fire and burned for days, resulting in a shortage of gasoline.
•Cover: If you do not have a covered garage, move your vehicle away from trees or structures that may topple or collapse.
•Insurance: Check with your insurance provider if typhoon damage is covered. If you paid for a premium that covers only liability, it is likely you do not have typhoon insurance coverage.

Securing your business
•Contact: Keep emergency phone numbers on-hand. Business owners should designate a contact person who will communicate with other employees, customers and suppliers.
•Windows: Install storm shutters over all exposed windows and other glass surfaces in the home or business. Plywood shutters --1/2-inch marine plywood -- can also offer protection from flying debris.
•Records: Keep financial records and other documents in a fire- and weather-proof location. If they're in a computer, make sure you have backup files.
•Inventory: Move your business inventory and equipment to a place that will keep it safe from rain and flooding.

No Tobacco No Betel Nut?

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 · 0 comments

Tobacco Free & Betel Nut Free. I bet a lot of you are wondering what is Betel Nut? Betel Nut: The dried, ripe seed of the palm tree Areca catechu (Palmae), a native of Ceylon and Malaya but also can be found in the Pacific Islands. The nuts, slightly larger than a chestnut, have a faint odor when broken open and a somewhat acrid taste. Betel nuts are chewed by the inhabitants together with the leaves of the betel pepper, Piper betle (Piperaceae), and lime. The mixture discolors and eventually destroys the teeth. Frequently, habitual chewers of the nut are toothless by the age of 25. The seeds contain a narcotic that produces some stimulation and a sense of well-being.  Local Islander chew this nut usually with Tobacco, Lime and a Betel Leaf.  So when they say this area is also Betel Nut Free is not because of the smoke, its because of what they do after they chew.  When chewing this blend of Betel Nut, Tobacco and lime it creates a lot of saliva in your mouth which most people just spit it out on the ground or a bottle and can!  Most people find this very gross including myself, so I am happy to see a sign like this in this area on Guam! More of The Guam Experience as time fly's by!
